About

Candra Bangun Setyawan completed his undergraduate studies in Music Education at the State University of Malang, and subsequently earned a Master’s degree in Artistic Creation at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta, with a concentration in musical composition developed through an artistic research approach. He currently works as an acousmatic composer and researcher, focusing on the exploration of low frequencies derived from field recordings, as well as the development of the concept of aural diversity in acousmatic music composition. His practice employs spectromorphological, vibrotactile, spatialisation, and acoustic ecology approaches as compositional and analytical frameworks to build practices of multisensory listening that bridge relationships between sound, the body, space, and ecological dimensions. Through this approach, his artistic practice seeks to expand understandings of how low frequencies can be experienced not only as auditory phenomena, but also as embodied and environmental experiences that can be extended through sound art. This perspective offers an artistic contribution that remains relatively underrepresented within climate change discourse, particularly in relation to sensory experience and diverse modes of listening.
